Hi! I thought a thread would be nice where people could talk about what they are doing for the environment. I have heard of people who have found ways to produce almost no trash through composting and shopping habits and ways of consumption, though I imagine this is quite improbably for most of us. However, I am curious to learn where you may have had some successes.
I'll start: I have been starting to make my own clothes again. I buy 100% linen fabrics that don't contribute textile microplastics to the environment nor contribute to questionable clothing manufacturing processes. The linen is quite expensive, but I find that the clothes I make are roughly the same cost (not counting my labor) as anything I might purchase made with cheap synthetics and cheap labor. I eventually would like to grow my own field of flax and buy a spinning wheel and a loom, though I do not have enough property to supply all my linen needs, but it's a fun hobby to take up if nothing else.

Hanging a full water bottle in the toilet tank can reduce both your water bill and preserve that precious resource.

I replaced my toilet last year for a more efficient one!

One thing that I noticed is that I create far less trash than my neighbors. Our trash removal is once per week, and our recycling is biweekly. It's typical for me to only have to put out my trash and recycling bins once per month while I see my neighbors putting their overflowing trash bins out every single week.
At first I thought that part of it was from having such a small household, but all of my neighbors (either side and both that are across the street) are couples and they still produce four times the amount of trash that I do, or at least it seems so. I try to be conscientious about it. Almost all of my garbage seems to be food packaging (that can't be recycled, like plastic sealing wrap).

I don't eat meat. I've heard that helps a lot Other than that, I walk pretty much everywhere, thanks to living in an area where it's not too much trouble walking anywhere I need to go and not having a working car. I was trying to recycle stuff last year, but the bags I set out for recycling ended up getting used more as extra garbage bags and now I've grown accustomed to that. Plus I don't think I have it in me to sort through recycling after work anyway. Maybe some day I'll do it again.

I don't have to sort my recycling. My city just picks it all up in a bin and they take care of it, so that makes it easy.
